I began my career at ICM Partners in 2010 and have been here since, focusing on literary fiction, narrative nonfiction, memoir, current events, and pop culture (music and comedy in particular). I’m a graduate of William & Mary, with a degree summa cum laude in Philosophy, and in my nocturnal life I play the drums in a band.
Like everyone else, I want to be entertained by a story well told, with a beginning, middle, and end. In both fiction and nonfiction, I like stories about fascinating people—outcasts, iconoclasts, those who have experienced tribulations that most of us have not, etc. I’m drawn to people who approach the world differently, are driven by motivations that are unknown or as yet unrealized in the rest of us.
I’m looking for work that has emotional depth, can at times be sentimental but not saccharine, and for writers who recognize that it’s all about the reader. To me, the most critical question a writer must answer is: Why this book now?
